Answering the Call: Protecting Our Democracy with Faithful Action

Answering the Call: Protecting Our Democracy with Faithful Action

Friends of Burlington, Haddonfield, and Salem Quarters,

We are living in a time that calls for our deepest witness. The efforts to prevent a free and fair election are increasing every day, and as Quakers, we are called to respond not from fear, but from faithfulness .

The Quaker Call continues to offer a way forward – a way that is grounded in worship, discernment, and practical action. This initiative, which began as an urgent call from a group of 19 concerned Friends, has grown into a national network of Quakers committed to protecting the integrity of our democracy .

What the Quaker Call Offers

  • Spiritual grounding: The work of protecting democracy is not separate from our faith. The Quaker Call encourages Friends to begin with worship and discernment, seeking the Spirit’s guidance on how to witness against injustice .
  • Practical resources: From election protection training to deep canvassing guides, the Quaker Call provides concrete tools for action. The website offers a library of resources updated regularly .
  • Community connection: Through national Zoom calls, a moderated forum, and local engagement, Friends are connected to one another across the country, sharing experiences, encouragement, and support .

The steering committee includes Marian Beane, Bruce Birchard, Sam Caldwell, Gretchen Castle, Mary Ellen McNish, Diane Randall, Jim Waddington, and Michael Wajda (Clerk) .

QC encourages Friends to consider four areas of action: Defending Truth, Working for True Equality and Justice for All, Promoting Free and Fair Elections, and Preparing for Non-Violent Resistance .
