Burlington Quarter Organizer

 

SouthJerseyQuakers.org is a communications and outreach project jointly sponsored by Salem, Haddonfield, and Burlington Quarters.   We are seeking a Quarter Organizer to work with monthly meetings in Burlington Quarter to raise the visibility of Friends, and contribute to a larger and stronger community of Friends in South Jersey.

 

Quarter Organizer Responsibilities:

Summary:  Work with contacts in monthly meetings to review and, where needed, improve outreach and welcoming processes.  Recruit and provide training (when needed) so meetings share information and support the SJQ website project.

  1. Communicate regularly with meeting and committee leaders regarding their participation in various aspects of this project.
  2. With meeting leaders, create and implement a common process for tracking  the number of visitors and new attenders.
  3. Recruit volunteers to support various initiatives that strengthen the website platform and content. (Such as: public relations, research, writing, oral history interviews, photography and graphic arts, fundraising, and evaluation.)
  4. As requested, provide or arrange for training in areas such as community outreach, digital platforms, and membership development.
  5. Promote increased awareness of activities by Friends in other meetings and Quarters, and promote intervisitation (via Zoom or in person).
  6. Contribute content to the website and newsletter.
  7. Submit periodic reports. Help to document, evaluate and enhance the project.

 

Requirements:The successful candidate will have proven skills in several of the following areas:

  • Quaker beliefs, processes, and history
  • Membership development, including welcoming and integrating new visitors
  • Digital platforms including WordPress, Facebook, Instagram etc.
  • Public relations, community outreach
  • Community building, including welcoming youth and people from diverse backgrounds
  • Strong writing and communication skills

Staff should also:

  • Have access to a cell phone, computer, and reliable transportation.
  • Make a commitment to this project through December 30, 2023.
  • Plan to work as part of a team, including learning or deepening skills together and sharing lessons learned.
  • Support an environment that especially welcomes youth and people from diverse backgrounds

 

Compensation:

  • The quarter organizer will work out of their home/personal office, as an independent contractor.
  • Compensation is $30 per hour, with approximately 10 hours per month.

 

Appointment:

This is a joint appointment, to be approved by the clerk of the Quarter and/or the Burlington Quarter representatives to the Steering Committee, plus the project administrator for this project.

 

Supervision: The organizer will be supervised by the project administrator.

Job Description: Youth Coordinator

Summary: The Youth Coordinator’s responsibilities include networking with parents, children, and key contacts in seven monthly meetings and – in conjunction with a committee - helping to plan and conduct inter-generational and youth activities. The coordinator will be hired as an independent contractor for up to 25 hours per month, and supervised by the Quarter coordinator.

Background: In recent years, Haddonfield Quarterly Meeting has been working to increase the participation of children and young families in Quarterly meeting activities and within our seven Monthly Meetings, located between Camden and Atlantic City Area, NJ. This includes opportunities for families to come together at the Quarterly level to broaden their sense of community and provide programs and services not available at local meetings. Duties:

  • In conjunction with the Quarterly Steering Committee (LRV), organize and run the children’s program during Quarterly meetings (4 times a year) and activities for elementary and middle school students throughout the year.
  • Develop personal relationships with parents and children, by staying in regular communication to explore, plan, and promote activities.
  • Work closely with contacts in the seven meetings who are regularly engaging with parents and children. We want to bring these contacts together periodically to share what they are doing, “lessons learned” and suggestions/feedback re Quarterly activities.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with parents and children, including planning and implementing children-friendly and inter-generational activities.
  • Able to visit seven monthly meetings and other locations on Saturdays and Sundays between 9 AM and 4 PM.
  • Available to communicate with meeting contacts throughout the week based on parties’ availability, and attend monthly committee meetings.
  • Excellent skills in interpersonal relations, oral and written communications, and participation on social media platforms.
  • Strong time-management skills, including prioritizing and completing multiple tasks.
  • Experience working in a Quaker-based setting is desirable but not necessary.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check.

About the position: The coordinator will be hired as an independent contractor for up to 25 hours per month, and supervised by the Quarter Coordinator. Compensation will be $15-20 per hour, up to 25 hours per month. A small budget is available to cover program costs.
