SouthJerseyQuakers would like to connect with people who are knowledgeable about and/or interested in learning more about the role of Quakers in South Jersey. We could do several things together – provide training on conducting an oral history interview, create a Quaker history trail, and hold Open Houses together. And, the upcoming 250th anniversary of the American Revolution provides an opportunity to better understand why most Friends attempted to remain neutral and how that speaks to the Peace Testimony today. New research is needed, such as the intersection of the movement to abolish slavery with colonists’ desire for freedom and how the “Commotion” (as Friends called the war) impacted relationships between Friends in England and the colonies.
