Merion Monthly Meeting is hosting George Lakey, 84, for the lecture series, Know Thy Neighbor.
George Lakey has been a member of Central Philadelphia Monthly Meeting for over half a century. He was first arrested in the civil rights movement, then co-founded A Quaker Action Group (AQAG) to confront the Vietnam war; with that group he sailed on the Phoenix with medical aid for Vietnamese suffering from the war. In 2010 he co-founded the Earth Quaker Action Team (EQAT) to work for climate justice. He has taught at Pendle Hill, Haverford College, and Swarthmore College.
His new autobiography, Dancing with History - A life for Peace and Justice will be published in December 2022.
A new documentaryof George's work is forthcoming from director Glenn Holsten.
Know Thy Neighbor is a continuing series of conversations intended to share our history and to open discussions exploring civic and cultural engagement issues with the community. The series has been archivedso that you may listen and watch past events.
