A First Monday Lecture with Emma Lapsansky-Werner
7:30pm - 9pm Eastern Time (US & Canada) via Zoom.
Free to the public! Registration required.
Through the lens of nineteenth-century Quaker families' parenting, education, and expectations of their children, we will explore some institutional foundations for today's Quakerism. What sorts of role models did parents seek to be and provide for their children? What kinds of strictures and disciplines did nineteenth-century Quaker children set for themselves? How do we know? How did stereotypes of Quaker family life make their way into American literature? Using some physical artifacts, this talk will invite us into conversations about these questions.
