Many of us desire to protect the earth, the only physical home we have. Earth is also our spiritual home, whose dancing beckons us to connect with the divine. What, if anything, does our desire to protect the earth and our discovery of God in the glory of nature have to do with each other?
As a Trappist monk and mystic, Thomas Merton experienced the goodness of creation and the gifts of nature. This was especially true in his meditation and praying of the Psalms, as well as his appreciation of the creatures that graced his hermitage near the monastery. Out of his prayerful awareness, Merton developed a passionate concern for the planet. In this day of reflection, Merton will be our guide as we recreate, renew and recover the gifts of the earth before us. Let us join in the dance of creation!Lunch included.
