The Mayor's Commission for Faith-based & Interfaith Affairs is hosting a reparations course from January 9-12th in Philadelphia and would love lots of Quakers to participate. PYM is offering registration reimbursement for those interested in attending!
Philadelphia Metro faith leaders and congregants are invited to participate in an in-depth intensive from January 9th through the 12th to learn about the multiple dimensions of reparations and how they can invite their congregation (for white majority congregations - toward offering repair; for Black majority congregations - toward making repair demands) deeply into this work in a multi-faith movement for reparations in this city, with a vision for deep truth-telling, repair, and wealth redistribution with the faith community moving toward this work as a moral imperative.
Rev. Naomi Washington-Leapheart says, "We are daily becoming reparations people. We are daily learning that the faith-based moral movement for reparations, right here in the city of Philadelphia, is necessary because the residue of slavery still runs through this city. For Black people, we have inherited a history, a story and that story contains some trauma, the trauma from slavery and its many, many afterlives. That trauma runs in households, in neighborhoods, among peoples. This is a moment for us to demand that our trauma be acknowledged and that white beneficiaries tangibly work for repair."
An information session will be offered on December 13 - the registration and additional information will become available.
Course times: January 9-12 from 10am to 5pm with lunch provided. Click on the registration link for additional information.
