Karen Tibbals is a Quaker and a market researcher who has delved into the question of why our nation is so split on basic issues like guns and immigration. She will be sharing her research and some ideas on how to improve conversations so people can listen and also be heard. The event is part of Bucks Quarterly Meeting's November 15 gathering and is followed by Meeting for Worship, Fellowship & Business. The event is held under the Care of Quakertown Friends Meeting.
Schedule: November 15
10:00-11:00 am Quarterly meeting will present their featured Speaker, Karen Tibbals. Karen is the author and founder of Ethical Frames LLC, and she will be speaking about her latest book, Persuade, Don't Preach: Restoring Civility Across the Political Divide.
If Quakers can agree on anything, it is that there is that of God in all people, but how do we see it in the people we dislike? What happens when we encounter people who take positions we disagree with strongly?
Karen suggests that we need to look underneath what people say, to see what we share with them, and when we do that, we can learn to talk to each other in a new way.
Karen Tibbals is an attender at Quakertown Meeting and a member of Rahway-Plainfield Monthly Meeting in New York Yearly Meeting and a graduate of Earlham School of Religion with a degree in Quaker history.
After the talk, Meeting for Worship will be held followed by lunch and meeting for Business.
