A brief introduction to Black History

Dr. Terry Nance, a Friend and graduate of Swarthmore College, who will speak about "A brief introduction to Black History."

She will provide a broad overview, touching on things such as the debate over whether Africans were human, the role of slavery in early US history, reconstruction, and Jim Crow.   She will lift up new voices, that many of us may have never heard in our history books.

Nance is currently serving as the Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and Chief Diversity Officer at Villanova University.  Her office has launched a new campaign called Living Race—Transforming Community that focuses on organizational systemic change and high-impact community engagement to facilitate opportunities for Black and minoritized students, staff and faculty to succeed and thrive within the University.  She has ties with both Swarthmore and Central Philadelphia Monthly Meetings.
