Mt. Holly Meeting Installs Geothermal System

Mt. Holly Meeting is installing geothermal heating and cooling into our 1775 meetinghouse.

It will replace our current natural gas fired heating system and will add air conditioning for the
first time in our building. Phase one will begin in early March this year with the drilling of seven,
340 foot deep bore holes in our side yard into which long loops of pipe will allow refrigerant to
flow, which will warm up or cool down by the ambient temperature deep underground. Heat
pumps inside the meetinghouse will then transfer the calories from that altered refrigerant into
heat for the winter or cooling in the summer. Our Meeting has been using a non-fossil fuel
electricity provider for some time so our carbon footprint should be reduced to near zero once
the system becomes operational later this year.

Mt Holly is celebrating 250 years this year. So, it is a great time to plan a visit.
