Welcoming The Stranger
The U.S. State Department recently initiated a new program, called Welcome Corps, to place refugees with groups of private citizens across the country, who take responsibility for helping them become settled in their communities. The refugees entering through this program have been cleared through the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP) and, currently, are coming mainly from Sub-Saharan Africa. Sponsoring groups, with a minimum of five members, can make application to bring a single refugee or a family into their community and the State Department provides detailed guidance on how to organize, what steps to take to become a sponsor and how to welcome a refugee into the community. Friends who think they might be interested in learning more about this program can join us for a discussion at Haddonfield Quarterly Meeting!
