A brief Missive from the Quarterly Clerk

For this upcoming Haddonfield Quarterly Meeting, our Programming will be entitled, “One Quarter, One Pamphlet.” The hope is to give as many Friends as who are able, a chance to read, contemplate, and then share their thoughts, insights, and wisdom together when next we meet. The idea being that, as we all read the same pamphlet, our unique lights will illuminate corners we may not be able to see on our own, and thus we will grow in understanding both of our spirits, and each other.

I first read the pamphlet, Living in Dark Times, when I was at the lovely Atlantic City Area Monthly Meeting (ACAMM) for our last Quarterly Meeting picnic. I am a voracious reader and the dramatic cover of the pamphlet drew me in. “Besides,” I thought to myself, “with all that was going on in the world these seemed like dark times indeed.” The Pamphlet immediately began talking about something I have had a sense of for a long time; that of being, adrift, unable to have even productive conversations about some of the huge issues that face friends today, and more importantly how to live in a world that doesn't have easy answers to some very hard questions. Rex Ambler goes to Willam Penn for advice and then helps bring those sage words alive. Read it for yourselves Friends, and see if you too come to a refreshed perspective as I did. I do not want to give too much away. I want Friends to read and let their unique life experiences and the universal inner light illuminate wisdom that they can share. I hope to see you all in February at Cropwell Monthly Meeting on Saturday February 17th. We are asking Friends to register so that we may best accommodate the conversation.
